To Provide Pleasant Feel, Super Model & Model Polling Stations Will Be Set Up: Sidhu

Mohali 23rd April:-- In a bid to attract voters to the polling booth &
to give a festive look to the electoral exercise during Lok Sabha
elections on 30 April, district administration has planned to set up a
few Super model & Model polling stations for the first time in the
district. For this to enhance the voter experience, some special
arrangements are being made which will include Voter Assistance Booth
with label "May I Help You". Actions in this regard have been
initiated. Explaining this District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy
Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that to enhance voting
experience & to provide pleasant "Look & Feel" 122 Super model polling
stations & 122 model polling stations will be setup in the district.
Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said that the motive of setting up model
polling stations is to boost voter turnout and to attract the voters
by offering pleasant & comfortable experience. He said that we are
making all efforts for conducting peaceful election & providing
pleasant atmosphere so that voters are not supposed to wait in queues.
He said that special care will be taken for queue management, as
priority will be given to patients, pregnant women, old people and
differently-abled persons for voting. NCC & NSS volunteers from
schools & colleges will assist for the same. He said that keeping in
view the hot weather conditions, drinking water will be served in
queues to the voters waiting for their turn. Special arrangements like
carpeting & sheds will also be made available at polling stations. He
said that prominently-displayed sign boards conveying the route for
polling booths will also be provided. Besides these there will be
proper arrangement of lightening at polling station. Basic
infrastructure like modern furniture including chair & tables will
also be provided to polling staff and arrangement for thoroughly
cleaned toilets will also be ensured. He said that to provide a new
look, the voting compartments will be made of fibre glass. Besides
this arrangements for some chairs inside polling booth will also be
made for voter if suddenly some one feels discomfort/ difficulty in
standing in the queue. He said to enhance the voting experience;
feedback will be sought from the voters. District Electoral Officer
said that for the first time the initiative has been made to motivate
the first time young voters, as appreciation certificates will be give
to the first time voters at polling booth. He said that these
appreciation certificates will be given by Block Level Officers.
Besides this, gifts etc. will also be distribute to motivate the
voters. He said that special arrangement like wheel chair etc. will be
made available at polling booth for physically disabled voters.
